And possibly because of Jackson’s wish to introduce high frame rate technology to the cinematic world, some relatively small-scale sequences have felt strangely awkwardly shot.ĭespite all this, while you don’t feel Jackson has quite the same passion for 'The Hobbit' that he had for 'Lord Of The Rings' his affection for the material is still reasonably infectious the sheer spectacle of the trilogy has never failed to impress (notwithstanding one or two strangely untidy special effect ‘moments’) and the whole thing has been held together by a strong central performance by Martin Freeman. The attempt to shoehorn in a love affair between a dwarf and an elf has been so cringeworthy I’ve had to mentally edit it out.
Some plot exposition sequences are almost Lucas-like in their clumsiness and artificiality. Even us relative fans would have to admit that pacing across the trilogy has been languid at times.
